The history traces back to Francis Morgan of Virginia in the 1630's, though the birth and death records early on are spotty in the book. Grandfather was the eleventh generation of descendants through: Francis Morgan (Jr.) (1636), Ann Morgan who married David Alexander, Unknown Alexander who married Thomas Baytop, Ann Baytop who married Thomas Scott, Capt. James Scott (c. 1725-? who served in the Revolutionary War for both VA and SC), Gen. John Scott (1773 VA-1839 AL and one of the founders of Montgomery), Col. Alfred Vernon Scott (1803-1860, who married into the Nixon family though his first wife was Mary Bibb, of another early VA family; his son AVSII died in a hunting accident), William Owen Nixon Scott (1850-1917), and Frank K. Scott (1888-?).
Another branch of the family has been traced back to James Lindsay (1623-1674), by Jerry Pricher, through the wife of General John Scott, Eliza Ann Coleman (married in 1795). By this, Grandfather was the tenth generation descendant of James Lindsay, through: Caleb Lindsay (1664 - 1712), James Lindsay (1700-1782), Elizabeth Lindsey (1724 - aft 1801) who married Robert Coleman, Caleb Coleman (1749-1788), Eliza Ann Coleman (1779-1834).
